Know Before You Go

Know what the beach flags mean.

Double Red Flag - Water Closed

Red Flag - High Hazard

Yellow Flag - Moderate Surf/Currents

Green Flag - Calm Conditions

Purple Flag - Dangerous Marine Life

Leave no trace.
Be sure to pick up all items that you take to the beach with you. Even if you plan on going to the same spot the next day, you must take all items (tents, chairs, etc.) with you. Any items left unattended on the beach after dusk will be removed.

Do not bring glass to the beach.
Glass is strictly prohibited on all Emerald Coast beaches. Not only is bringing glass hazardous, but it will also result in a fine if caught.

Beware of rip currents.
A rip current is a relatively strong, narrow current flowing outward from the beach through the surf zone and presenting a hazard to swimmers. The best way to avoid a rip current is to know the surf conditions before entering the water. Knowing what the beach flags mean is the first step in avoiding the currents. For more information on rip currents, view South Walton’s beach safety tips.
