Tips for First Time Visitors

If you are unsure if you have thought about everything you need for your upcoming beach vacation, we are here to help! Vacations can be stressful when you are trying to make sure you have everything your family needs for the trip, but we are taking some of that stress away with a helpful list of tips for those visiting Florida’s Emerald Coast for the first time.

Take breaks.
The Florida sun is no joke! Even on days that aren’t brutally hot, we suggest taking breaks from the sun. Apply sunscreen multiple times throughout the day, consistently drink water to stay hydrated, and spend time indoors. Making sure you and your family do not get overheated is the first step in having an enjoyable beach vacation!

Respect the flags.
Pay attention to the flags flying on the beach. Each color provides information on how cautious you should be while entering the water. Ranging from low hazard to dangerous marine life to the water being closed to the public, these flags relay important information that all visitors should be well aware of. Leave the beach as you found it.
Leave the beach just as you found it. Cleanliness on the beach not only leaves our white sand beaches beautiful, but it also prevents animals from consuming the trash. In addition, we ask that you fill in any holes that you may have dug while playing in the sand. This ensures nesting sea turtles can safely make their way back to the ocean. Learn more about our area’s sea turtles here.

Bring entertainment.
You may enjoy simply laying on the beach, while reading a book, soaking up the sun and listening to the waves, but your kids may not. Bring toys for the sand, balls, a frisbee or whatever will keep them entertained for hours on the beach. In addition, we suggest bringing entertainment such as board games or movies for the beach rental if you plan to spend a significant amount of time in your condo or house. (These are also great to have on rainy days!)

Plan for the offseason.
If the time of year you visit isn’t dictated by holidays or school schedules, we suggest visiting the Emerald Coast in the offseason. If this isn’t an option and you do visit in the summer, be prepared for traffic. We suggest booking accommodations within walking distance of restaurants and/or attractions to avoid the traffic in the evenings. See our full list of properties scattered throughout the region on our website here.

Pack smart.
If you are driving, we suggest bringing all of the items you will need. Don’t forget a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and a beach bag. We even suggest bringing food in ice chests if you plan to eat some meals at your rental. This way, you can avoid the traffic and crowds at local grocery stores, If you do need to make a run to the store, early mornings are the best time to go.
